Endorsements

The DFL Environmental Caucus endorses DFL candidates in Legislative, Congressional, Statewide, and some local races.

Our endorsements process is currently underway for the 2026 elections. If you are a candidate seeking our endorsement, please fill out the applicable form below:

  • Use this form for campaigns for the Minnesota House or Senate.
  • Use this form for campaigns to U.S. House or Senate.
  • Use this form for campaigns for County Commissioner seats. Please note that our capacity to screen County-level candidates is limited and that it is unlikely that we can endorse candidates outside of Minnesota’s ten most populous counties.
  • Use this form for all other campaigns or if you are an incumbent previously endorsed by the DFLEC and are running for reelection.

Statewide Officer Elections 2026

Keith Ellison has served as Minnesota Attorney General since 2019. During his entire legal and political career, he has stood up for the rights of the marginalized. He has battled the Trump Administration successfully on a number of issues, including funding for climate and environmental projects, and is Minnesota’s strongest defender against corporate overreach.

Steve Simon has served as Minnesota’s Secretary of State since 2014. He has worked tirelessly and successfully to ensure that Minnesota’s elections are fair, free, and secure. The right to make our voices heard at the ballot box is vital to our work for a healthy environment, and we strongly endorse Secretary Simon’s continued work to safeguard that right.

Congressional Elections 2026

Peggy Flanagan is our current Lt. Governor and a candidate for U.S. Senate. Minnesota, our country, and our planet need a champion who will fight for our future. Peggy Flanagan is that champion. This time of crisis calls for her loud and clear voice. As our Senator, she will lead with the values that Minnesotans share: our commitment to civil rights, our respect for our lakes and rivers, and our drive to give our children a bright future.

Matt Little is an attorney, former State Senator, and former Lakeville mayor running for the open Congressional District 2 in the southern Twin Cities Metro. Little is a staunch advocate for clean air and water who knows that a clean environment and a healthy economy go hand in hand. He will be a strong and consistent champion for the climate action we need in Congress.

Kelly Morrison is a physician and former State Legislator profession who has championed progress on climate and on clean water issues ranging from road salt to sulfide mining. We are thrilled to have her in Congress standing up for her West Metro constituents.

Betty McCollum is Minnesota environmentalists’ most consistent and long-standing ally in Congress, authoring and supporting bills on clean energy, clean water, and protecting natural lands. The East Twin Cities Metro and all of Minnesota are lucky to have her in the House.

Ilhan Omar has served as U.S. Representative for CD5 in Minneapolis and surrounding suburbs since 2019. Congresswoman Omar is a tremendous champion for our values and her district. She is a co-author of the Green New Deal and a staunch supporter of environmentalism, human rights, and Minnesota’s clean water.

Minnesota Senate Elections 2026

Jen McEwen has served as a State Senator for Duluth (currently District 08) since 2021, prior to which she served as a Board Member of the DFLEC. She is the DFLEC’s closest ally in the Senate, leading on issues including sulfide mining, data centers, passenger rail, lead service lines, and many more, in addition to her outstanding service as chair of the Labor Committee.

Mary Carlson is a small business owner and Renshall School Board member running to flip Senate District 22 for the DFL. She has extensive knowledge of sustainable farming, water quality, and the health impacts of environmental issues. A former Tartan High School student, she knows firsthand the need to regulate toxic chemical pollution.

Jason Lohmann is a second generation farmer, machine operator, and School Board member who is running to flip Senate District 20 in southeastern Minnesota for the DFL. He has firsthand knowledge of cover crops and nitrogen fertilizer issues, making him an excellent advocate for the much-needed transition to sustainable farming.

Chris Ford is a former firefighter, union leader, and current Blaine City Councilmember running to flip SD32 in Anoka County for the DFL. He brings firsthand knowledge of issues like PFAS and public planning and is passionate about using sound science to inform environmental policy.

Nat Smith is an attorney and volunteer leader running to flip Senate District 33 in northern Washington County for the DFL. A beekeeper and avid hiker, he has firsthand knowledge of environmental issues and is staunchly committed to protecting lands and waters in the St. Croix Valley and across the state.

Angela Nelson is a school principal running to flip Senate District 35 in Coon Rapids for the DFL. She is a strong supporter of clean water and a transition to clean energy that leaves no one behind, and is extremely well-qualified to win this key district.

Kristy Janigo is a Maple Grove City Council member and Army Veteran who is running to flip Senate District 37 in the Maple Grove area to the DFL column. She has a history of environmental volunteerism and a strong commitment to protecting clean water and a healthy climate.

Mary Kunesh has represented Senate District 39 since 2020, and previously served as a Representative. An educator and one of the Senate’s only Indigenous members, she is a champion for environmental protection and tribal rights, authoring the Wild Rice Act (which has not yet passed) to protect this species and the rights of Minnesota’s Anishinaabe communities.

John Marty has served in the Minnesota Senate since 1986, currently in the Roseville-area District 40. He has long been a steadfast ally for the environmental community, consistently ahead of the curve on supporting climate action and clean water. As Senate Finance Chair, he was a key protector of Minnesota’s environmental laws against Republican-led attacks in 2025.

Mike Freiberg is a current Representative for House District 43B who is seeking the open Senate District 43 seat in Hennepin County. He has long been a strong environmental ally as well as a tremendous leader on protecting Minnesota’s democracy.

Sam Rosemark is a school board member and policy advocate running for the open DFL-held Senate District 44 in Ramsey County. He has extensive experience in environmental issues, having worked in organics recycling and served as Co-Chair of the Sierra Club North Star Chapter’s Sierra Action Committee. As a Tartan High School alumnus, he knows firsthand the importance of protecting clean water.

Ann Johnson Stewart has represented Minnesota Senate District 45 in the Lake Minnetonka area since a special election in 2024 and previously represented District 44 from 2021-2023. A civil engineer by training, she has been a strong advocate for clean water and clean transportation. She previously served on the Board of the DFL Environmental Caucus.

Amanda Hemmingsen-Jaeger was elected to represent Senate District 47 in the Woodbury area in the 2025 special election after previously serving in the House since 2023. She is a scientist by profession and is a champion of climate action, public transit, and protecting clean water, an especially critical issue in her heavily PFAS-impacted district.

Dan Kessler is a pediatrician running to flip Senate District 48 in Carver County for the DFL. His cares deeply about protecting the environment and public health and is strongly committed to action to solve Minnesota’s major climate challenges.

Krish Subrahmanian is a pediatrician, educator, and Air National Guard member running for the open Senate District 49 in the Eden Prairie area. As a phyisician, he is extremely knowledgeable of how the environment affects our health. He is ready to lead in the Senate to protect and improve Minnesota’s lands and waters and secure a healthy climate future.

Liz Reyer is a current Representative for House District 52A who is seeking the open Senate District 52 in Dakota County. A business executive and former columnist with strong knowledge of human health issues, she has championed climate action and scientific research as a Legislator.

Paul Cumings is a longtime Legislative staffer and a school board member running for the open Senate District 53 seat in northern Dakota County. Few people have more knowledge of how our Legislature works, and we are fully confident that Paul will use that knowledge to advance clean water and climate action at the Legislature.

Erin Maye Quade has represented Senate District 56 in the Apple Valley-Rosemount area since 2023, having previously flipped a Republican seat in the House in 2017. She has consistently voted for environmental priorities in the Minnesota Legislature and has recently been one of the Legislature’s foremost advocates for regulating AI and energy- and water-guzzling data centers.

Mark Legvold is a farmer, educator and veteran running to flip Senate District 58 in southern Minnesota for the DFL. His family farm uses sustainable practices, making him one of the most knowledgeable candidates on clean farming issues. He is focused on ensuring clean energy and clean water for all in his rural district.

Robyn Gulley is a West St. Paul city councilmember, University of Minnesota regent, and labor organizer running for the open DFL-held Senate District 65 in Saint Paul. A former Sierra Club organizer, she is strongly committed to climate action and finding common ground between labor and the environment and is highly knowledgeable about environmental justice issues in her district.

Foung Hawj has represented SD67 on Saint Paul’s East Side since 2013. He serves as chair of the Environment, Climate, and Legacy Committee, where he shepherded the majority of Minnesota’s positive 2023 environmental laws to passage. He is a tremendous advocate for climate action, natural spaces, and environmental justice.

Minnesota House of Representatives Elections 2026

Reed Olson is a former Beltrami County Commissioner and Bemidji City Councilmember running to flip Minnesota House District 02A, a Republican-held swing seat. Reed has been endorsed previously by the DFLEC in his 2024 run for this seat and is a champion of clean water and environmental protection.

Emily Thabes is the Executive Director of the Beltrami County Historical Society running to flip House District 02B in Northwest Minnesota for the DFL. She strongly supports protections for clean water and wild rice and the rights of the tribal communities within her district. A hunter, camper, forager, and angler, she serves as a volunteer on the DNR Fisheries Work Group’s pan fish committee.

Pete Johnson is a firefighter and union official who has represented House District 08A in Duluth since 2025. He is a strong advocate for workers’ rights and a key environmental ally who cares deeply about clean water and climate issues.

Liish Kozlowski has represented Minnesota House District 08B in eastern Duluth since 2023. they previously served as Duluth’s Community Relations officer, where they helped design Duluth’s City Climate Action Plan. They are now one of the Legislature’s most passionate champions for climate justice and protections for Lake Superior communities in the face of threats like PFAS and sulfide mining.

Jack L’Heureux is a long-term care administrator and former Mora mayor running to flip House District 11B in northern Minnesota for the DFL. Jack is strongly committed to protecting his district’s clean water and supporting our clean energy economy.

Zach Dorholt is a former Legislator, mental health professional, and St. Cloud School Board member running for the open House District 14B in St. Cloud. Environmental issues are the reason he got into politics and believes that acting to halt and adapt to climate change must be a top priority. He is fully committed to protecting clean water both in his Mississippi River district and statewide.

Martha Brown is an educator, musician, and author running to flip House District 19A in south-central Minnesota. he has a solid understanding of how the legislative and political worlds operate, and as a self-described life-long environmentalist, she is committed to bringing about change.

Heather Holmes is a scientist and former school board member running to flip House District 24A in Dodge and Olmsted Counties for the DFL. Heather cares deeply about clean water and sustainable agriculture and would be a terrific ally for environmentalists in the Legislature.

Charles McConaughay is an IT manager running to flip House District 27B in Central Minnesota for the DFL. A problem-solver and avid hiker, he is committed to solving Minnesota’s environmental challenges and maintaining our public lands for future generations.

Daniel Schmidt is a nonprofit leader running to flip House District 28B in Chisago County. Daniel has been the Finance and Development Director for the East Phillips Neighborhood Indoor Urban Farm Project, and previously worked for Wilderness Inquiry, giving him tremendous firsthand knowledge of environmental and conservation issues.

Joey Smyth is a retail worker running to flip House District 30A in Wright County for the DFL. He shares the DFLEC’s commitment to environmental stewardship, clean energy, and building a sustainable future for District 30A families.

Matt Norris has represented Minnesota House District 32B since 2023. An attorney and local leader, he authored the successful ban on cancer-causing PFAS chemicals in firefighting foam, as well as other bipartisan bills relating to housing and public safety.

Kari Rehrauer has represented Minnesota House District 35B in Coon Rapids since 2025. A biology teacher and former city council member, she strongly prioritizes environment and climate issues, especially relating to housing.

Jim DeMay is a school board member and educator running to flip the open GOP-held House District 36A in the North Metro. As a school board member, he has led the district to invest in clean energy and efficiency and would bring that same climate commitment to the Minnesota Legislature.

Aaron Klemz is a longtime environmental advocate and former educator who is running for the open House District 39A in the North Metro. There are few people in Minnesota with greater knowledge of environmental issues than Aaron, and he would be an invaluable ally for environmentalists at the Capitol. Aaron is fully committed to our priorities of climate action, clean water, protecting Minnesota from sulfide mining, and much more.

Amáda Márquez Simula is the current mayor of Columbia Heights running for the open House District 39B in the central Metro. She has led on environmental stewardship as mayor and has done especially impressive work on pollinator protection. She will be a superb advocate for clean energy, clean transportation, and clean water in the Legislature.

Aisha Elmquist is a civil rights attorney, public servant, and former Senate District DFL Outreach Officer who is running to represent the open House District 40A seat in the Arden Hills-New Brighton area. She has a strong focus on health issues and valuable experience working on water and transit in her community.

David Gottfried has represented Minnesota house District 40B in the Roseville-Shoreview area since a special election in 2025. A pro-bono legal specialist, Gottfried serves on the critical Agriculture and Environment committees in the House and helped hold the line against Republican-led rollbacks during the 2025 session.

Jen Fox is a public servant and small business owner running to flip House District 41B in the Hastings-Cottage Grove area for the DFL. Jen cares deeply about protecting clean water in a critical district where PFAS and nitrate contamination are major issues, and we know that she would be an excellent advocate for her community in the House.


Ned Carroll has represented House District 42A in Plymouth since 2023, prior to which he was a city council member for eight years. An attorney, he serves on the Energy, Capital Investment, and Health committees and has been a climate champion both during his time in the House and on the City Council.

Kyrstin Schuette is a political organizer and nonprofit leader running for the open DFL-held House District 43A in the Crystal-New Hope area. She is strongly focused on education, human rights, and social justice. She is also a strong advocate for public transit and previously worked for former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttiegieg.

Jess Lewis is an air pollution scientist running for the open House District 43B seat in the Golden Valley area. A former employee of EPA, Federal Aviation Administration, USAID, and WHO, Jess has a deep understanding of the connections between environment and health. After being fired by the Trump Administration along with all USAID staff, Jess decided to bring her scientific knowledge to politics, and we are excited to have her running for the Minnesota House.

Peter Fischerhas represented the Maplewood-North St. Paul area in the House since 2013, currently as Representative for District 44A. The co-chair of the House Environment committee, he is a tremendous champion for environmental protections, especially clean water. He has led on legislative efforts including banning toxic chemicals, reduce over-salting, and establishing the “right to repair.”

Patty Acomb is a natural resources and energy expert who has represented House District 45B in the Minnetonka Area since 2019. She has been a key champion for climate action in Minnesota, authoring or shepherding numerous clean energy and decarbonization bills to passage. She currently serves as co-chair of the House Energy Committee.


Larry Kraft has represented House District 46A in St. Louis Park since 2023 and is a former city council member, nonprofit executive, and manager in the tech industry. He is deeply focused on climate change, having led the creation of the Minnesota cities Climate Coalition, and passed 15 climate-related bills into law from 2023-2024. He serves on the Energy and Transportation Committees.

Cheryl Youakim is an educator who has represented House District 46B in the Hopkins-Edina area since 2015. She is a strong advocate for public transit and a solid ally on other environmental issues.

Shelley Buck is the newly sworn-in Representative for House District 47A, having won a January special election to fill the seat. An environmental nonprofit executive and former local leader in the Prairie Island Indian Community, she led the creation of Prairie Island’s zero-carbon strategy and is a tremendous climate and clean water champion.

Lucy Rehm has represented Minnesota House District 48B in Carver County since 2023, having flipped an extremely close district. She previously served as a Chanhassen City Council member and a member of the Environment Commission and has served on several environment-related committees in the House. She has strongly prioritized clean water and clean transportation issues.

Alex Falconer has represented House District 49A in Eden Prairie since 2025, and is a strong advocate for clean water and climate action. He previously worked as a campaign manager for Save the Boundary Waters and currently serves on the Environment and Commerce committees.

Nathan Coulter has represented Minnesota House District 51B in Bloomington since 2023. A former policy staffer and City Council member, he has consistently supported environment and climate progress.

Christos Jensen is an attorney, union steward, and avid volunteer running for the open House District 52A in Eagan and Burnsville. He strongly supports protecting the environment in his district and across the state. He lives the values of climate action and is a champion for sustainable energy generation, transportation, and land use.

Rick Hansen is a farmer, environmental scientist, and small business leader who has represented northern Dakota County in the Minnesota House since 2005, currently as the Representative for District 53B. He is a longtime champion and prolific bill author on numerous environmental issues ranging from pesticides to clean energy to sulfide mining. He currently serves as Co-Chair of the Agriculture Committee.

Brad Tabke has represented House District 54A in the Shakopee area since 2023, and previously represented the same area from 2019-2021. A consultant, horticulturist, and former Mayor of Shakopee, he is a strong advocate for clean transportation and healthy ecosystems. Brad is a leader who does not shy away from his values, and has been a tremendous leader on protecting his constituents from ICE aggression.

Christopher Kartschoke is a small business owner running to flip House District 54B in Scott County for the DFL. An independent-minded leader, he is a strong supporter of clean water and climate action and believes that companies that violate pollution laws must be held accountable.

Robert Bierman is a small business owner who has represented House District 56A in Apple Valley since 2019. He has been a key ally on climate issues, authoring legislation on electric vehicle infrastructure, solar on schools, and home weatherization. He currently serves as co-chair of the House Health Committee.

Brian Cohn is a business leader and prolific volunteer running to flip House District 57B in Lakeville for the DFL. He is a strong advocate for clean energy, protecting clean water, and improving land use and transit to clean up Minnesota’s transportation system.

Kristi Pursell has represented House District 58A in rural Dakota, Rice, and Scott Counties since 2023. A former environmental nonprofit leader, she has been one of the environmental community’s strongest allies, authoring a bill restoring the MPCA Citizens’ Board and numerous other policies to protect clean water, habitat, and our climate.

Sydney Jordan has represented House District 60A in Northeast Minneapolis since 2020. Previously serving as State Director of Save the Boundary Waters, she quickly emerged as a tremendous advocate for environmental issues, authoring a law to remove lead service lines across the state, speaking out strongly against the Line 3 pipeline, and working to reduce pollution in vulnerable communities.

Jamie Long has represented House District 61B in southwest Minneapolis since 2019. An attorney and groundbreaking climate champion, he serves as DFL Floor Leader and has been instrumental in passing numerous pro-clean energy policies. He deserves substantial credit for the landmark “Minnesota Miracle” of the 2023 Legislative Session.

Samantha Sencer-Mura has represented House District 63A in south Minneapolis since 2023. An educator and nonprofit leader, she has advocated for climate action, clean transportation, and other key caucus priorities, and serves on the House Transportation Committee.


Leigh Finke has represented House District 66A in Saint Paul and nearby suburbs since 2023. A writer and media producer, she serves on the House Environment committee and has been a staunch supporter of DFLEC priorities in the face of attacks on our environmental protections.

Athena Hollins has represented House District 66B in Saint Paul since 2021. An attorney, she serves as DFL Whip and is a tremendous champion for climate action and environmental justice. She authored the law to put renewal of the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund on the 2024 ballot with a new Community Grants program to support environmental projects in underrepresented communities.

Liz Lee has represented Minnesota House District 67A on Saint Paul’s East Side since 2023. A former Congressional staffer and consultant, she is a strong advocate for climate action and environmental justice and was integral in accomplishing the clean energy-powered Heights development in her district.
