About

Who We Are

The Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Environmental Caucus (DFLEC) is a community of Minnesota DFLers who share a common goal of protecting our planet, our state’s ecosystems, and all those who call them home. We are one of several Community Caucuses within the DFL and are proud to have more than 1500 members from all corners of our beautiful state.

Our Mission

The mission of the DFLEC is to educate and mobilize the citizens of Minnesota to address the climate crisis and to protect, preserve, and restore the natural
environment.

What We Do

Directed by our Executive Team, the DFLEC holds events and forums, endorses and supports environmental champions for public office, educates Minnesotans on environmental, and lobbies for the DFL and our elected officials to fight for our values. Our work can’t happen without dedicated volunteers, so we encourage DFLers interested in volunteering to contact us at dflenvironmentalcaucus@gmail.com!

Our History

The DFL Environmental Caucus was formed in 2015 by a small group of volunteers who wanted to work within the DFL to elect more environmental champions to office and win policies to protect our climate, water, and natural spaces. We’re proud to say that we’ve played a small part in tremendous victories for the DFL and our environment over the past decade. The 2023-2024 DFL-controlled state government passed resounding wins for climate and environment, including the 100% carbon-free electricity law, Amara’s Law to restrict carcinogenic forever chemicals, a sales tax for Metro Transit, replacement of our state’s lead service lines, and much more.

Our Caucus has been led by three Chairs to date – Veda Kanitz from 2015-2021, Megan Bond from 2021-2025, and Matt Doll from 2025-present. We’ve benefitted from a tremendous group of DFLers serving on our Board, including several who have gone on to become elected officials.
